How to Choose Qualified Steel Grating Materials Suitable for Safe Use

All safety grating has high strength and excellent anti-slip performance. How to determinate and choose qualified materials and types for safety use, here are the principles for your reference.

Principles used in calculating the capability of materials for fulfilling the design criteria for safe use are:

  • In all cases, the worst possible case should be factored into the design.
  • Calculations should be based upon the product being simply supported.
  • Potential material sizes should always be either the minimum rolled down or the lower tolerance, sizes. Allowance should be made also for any equivalent depth reduction in bearing bars caused by being provided with serrated top surfaces or slots intended for pressed cross bars that are only mechanically locked without subsequent welding.
  • When the imposed loadings have an area of application greater than the product size, any benefits obtained by loading transfer via transverse bar to adjacent unloaded areas should be ignored.
  • For uniformity, any load or deflections in our specification sheet are all compiled by using the above method of calculation.
  • For pedestrian use, the deflection limits we recommended are those considered to be not only safe within the stress limits of the materials being used but at levels where the user is considered to feel safe.
  • When designing for heavy static or dynamic loading where there is no trampoline effect, such as that produced under pedestrian loading, providing calculations can prove the product under loading is within the limits recommended for the material being used, deflection is not the main design criterion.
  • For pedestrian use, the deflection limits recommended for calculation or test are those considered to be not only safe within the stress limits of the materials being used but at levels where the user is considered to feel safe.
